2020 Presidential Election
Handled booking, communication, page assignments print graphic requests and deadlines on election night. Designed A1 when the election was called on Nov. 8.
Additionally, I worked with a team that created Instagram social cards for California propositions, measures and local races. My contributions focused on developing content for Spanish readers.
DDT dumping ground
The coast of Catalina Island was a dumping ground and no one could see it until recently. There could still be up half a million barrels of toxic DDT spewing into the ocean. Designed the print package, Instagram story and Instagram post. Story here.
2020 Voters Guide
The Los Angeles Times presented a guide to every election on the ballot for Los Angeles readers. The guide covered presidential candidate policies, senate races, local races, propositions and Los Angeles Times endorsements. Led the creative process for this project by commissioning and art directing visuals for print and online. See the full section here.
Essential Politics
Developed branding for the Essential Politics newsletter delivered to readers weekly.
Chicano Moratorium
Over 20,000 people marched in East L.A. to protest the Vietnam war in 1970 where a peaceful demonstration turned violent and led to the death of pioneering LA Times journalist Ruben Salazar. We look back at the lasting effects of the Chicano movement 50 years later. Designed the A section print package, Instagram post and Instagram story.
The Pandemic’s Toll
Over 9,000 lives have been lost to COVID-19 in California. A special section honors the lives of those who were lost throughout the state. Served as the design lead for this project. See the full spread here.
California’s Prop. 65 warning label was meant to keep products honest and toxic free, but who does the warning actually protect? Art directed the illustration and Twitter GIF and designed the Instagram post, Instagram story and print package.
